Since the early 1960s, the Cleveland American Standard brand has been used to market lower-cost instruments to schools and marching bands, while the King brand is reserved for professional instruments. In 1965, the company was sold to the Seeburg Corporation of Eastlake, Ohio and the name changed to King Musical Instruments, as all models were produced under the "Cleveland American Standard" brand. As the cost of producing saxophones at home became more and more problematic, King imported saxophones from Strasser, Marigaux, Lemaire and SML in France, all of which were sold by King and Marigsaux before they were sold themselves. In 1972 Seiburg and King acquired the company Benge, which produced a distinctive trumpet line in Los Angeles, CA and shortly thereafter moved production to Anaheim.
In 1916 White sought a trade in Czech instruments interrupted by World War I, and in 1916 he sought the help of his friend and fellow saxophonist John White Jr. from Cleveland.
The H.N. White Company, originally founded by John White Jr. and his brother John Jr., was a former musical instrument factory based in Cleveland, Ohio, that used the trade name "King" for its instruments. In 1903, the company H., N. and White hired a saxophonist named John R. Reynolds, who was from New York City. The name was changed to King Musical Instruments, and the company was acquired by the Seeburg Corporation of Eastlake Ohio in 1965. Steinway musical instruments, which use the name King for their brass instruments such as trumpets, trombones, tubas and marching wind instruments, own the rights to it.
H.N. White tried to expand his range to woodwind instruments from 1908 and imported Evette Schaeffer saxophones and clarinets from the French Buffet Crampon Company. In 1929 it established itself as one of the leading manufacturers of brass instruments in the United States, with improvements in saxophone design that were reflected in King's Zephyr in 1935. Buckeye Relief plans to sell its first harvested buds at the company's new factory in Eastlake, Ohio, which is expected to open in December.
